Veronica McGregor
News and Social Media Manager, NASA
At NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, I lead an award-winning team producing news, videos and social media campaigns to keep the world engaged with two dozen space missions studying Earth, the planets, asteroids, comets, stars and galaxies. It's a busy universe-- we produce over 400 news releases and articles per year, plus hundreds of multimedia and interactive products. In social media, we reach over 14 million direct followers plus millions more through earned media. In 2013, we took home the Webby Award and the SXSW Interactive Award for our Mars Curiosity rover Campaign.
In 2008, I created NASA's first Twitter account, @MarsPhoenix, a groundbreaking step for the agency. In 2009, I created our first interactive live-streaming events and the first "NASA Tweetup.” Now called "NASA Socials," over 120 events have been held around the country creating thousands of alumni ambassadors who promote NASA in their communities. The model for these events has been adopted by businesses, international space agencies and the White House. My work has been featured in the New York Times, ABC, NBC, Mashable, CNET and others.
In 2010, Forbes.com listed me as one of 20 Inspiring Women to Follow on Twitter. In 2012, Mashable.com included me on their list of 15 Twitter Accounts Every Space Lover Should Follow. In 2013, I was awarded NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal for my achievements in social media. Prior to joining NASA-JPL, I worked at CNN focusing on technology, space and the environment.
I currently tweet as @NASAJPL, @AsteroidWatch, @MarsCuriosity, and @VeronicaMcG.
